How many people does a 1 lb cake feed?
A 1 lb cake feeds four or five people. Here is how to size up from there, without ordering too much or too little.

A 1 lb cake, about 455 g, feeds four to five people. That one number answers most of the sizing questions we get, and everything else is multiplication.
The quick answer
- 300 g bento cake: two to three people
- 1 lb: four to five people
- 2 lb: eight to ten people
- 7 lb: about thirty people
Count the people who will actually eat
At a birthday, not everyone takes a slice, and children take small ones. At a wedding or a dholki, cake is one dessert among several. Count the guests you expect at the table when the cake is cut, not everyone invited.
When to go one size up
If the cake is the only dessert, or you want some left for the family the next day, go one size up. It is easier to share the extra than to cut thin slices.
Tiered cakes
A tiered cake is sized by its total weight, the same way. Two tiers of 2 lb and 4 lb feed roughly as many people as one 6 lb cake. The tiers change how it looks, not how far it goes.
